| China Railway 18th Bureau (Group) Co., Ltd (CR18G) is among the first group of super enterprises capable of project general contracting as well as owning the qualification of engineering contracting abroad and foreign business right. The abilities are as follows: super grade of general contracting for railway construction; first grade of general contracting for road, water conservancy and hydropower, municipal and public construction as well as house building; first grade of professional contracting for tunnel, bridge, civic track, airport landing strip and road pavement construction as well as grade Ⅰqualification for geological disaster prevention. Furthermore, it undertakes the contracting of overseas engineering and international bidding in the homeland; export of equipment and materials needed for the above overseas engineering; sending labors who work for the above engineering as well. The Group owns 9 subsidiaries, 15 sub-companies and some project headquarters. The total staff is about 18,000, among which there are 7,282 persons owning various professional titles, more than 2,000 middle and senior engineers and 646 qualified project managers. The Group has registered capital of RMB Yuan 895 million. There’re 4,000 more sets of machinery and equipment for production in the Group and the total power is about 450,000 KW. The degree of synthetic mechanical capability is up to 85% and the annual construction capability is over RMB Yuan 10 billion. It was listed at the 23rd and the 30th respectively in the evaluation of 500 enterprises of largest business scale and optimum economic profit within the country in 1994. In early 1999, the Information Center of Construction Ministry issued, in China Construction News and Economic Daily, View of the first selected bidding and tendering enterprises in domestic construction market and Introduction of the first 100 enterprises with good business achievements in construction system of the whole country on which the Group was lined in the first place.
CR18G is reconstructed from the former China Railway 18th Construction Bureau which was collectively transferred from the 8th Division of Railway Corps under PLA established in 1958. In Jan. 1984, the 8th Division of Railway Corps was separated from the Ministry of Railways and renamed as 18th Construction Bureau of Ministry of Railways. In Sep. 1999, the title above mentioned was renamed as China Railway 18th Construction Bureau. In 2000, it began to be under the administration of National Enterprises Working Committee. In April 18, 2001, it was reformed as China Railway 18th Bureau (Group) Co., Ltd.. During the last more than 40 years, she has constructed more than 30 national railway projects such as Chengkun, Xiangyu, Daqin, Jingjiu, Nankun, Xikang, Qinshen, Neikun, Xihe, Yuhuai, 56 expressway projects such as Chengyu, Taijiu, Jingshen, Jingfu and Tonghuang, some hydro and thermo power and irrigation projects such as Yinluanrujin, Qingjiang Geheyan hydro junction, Taipingyi power station, Hongjiang power station, Qujing power plant; more than 100 municiple projects such as Beierhuan Road Project in Shijiazhuang, Gulou interchange in Huhehaote, Binhai interchange in Tianjin, Shihuang tunnel in Chongqing; 4 city railway projects such as Dalian light rail, Beijing light rail, Tianjin light rail; more than 300 house building projects such as Jingtong Xincheng Village in Beijing; and overseas projects such as Hong Kong West Rail, Nigerian railway rehabilitation project, Upper Swat Canal Diversion project in Pakistan, Jubail expressway project in Saudi Arabia. She has achieved 10 number ones in tunnel and bridge construction, for example, the extra longest railway tunnel in China — Qinling Tunnel of Xikang Railway (18.45km); diversion tunnel with the largest section in Asian-Pacific area — Diversion Tunnel of Geheyan Power Station in Hubei Province (22m×20.5m); voltage regulating pit with the largest diameter -- Voltage Regulating Pit of Taipingyi Power Station in Sichuan Province (Dia. 28.6m, Dep. 80.5m); the longest tunnel under small-section and single-head excavation -- Jinchang Lenglongling Tunnel in Gansu Province (6,800m of single-head excavation); the highest V-support railway bridge in the whole world --Badu Nanpanjiang Extra-Large Bridge of Nankun Railway (115.6m); Number One Bridge in Asia -- Lizigou Extra-Large Bridge of Neikun Railway, whose whole construction technique achieved the international top level; Guijiang Sanqiao bridge in Guangxi Province, in which vertical twist construction technique was used for the first time in China;Rainbow bridge in Tianjin, in which the various techniques of under-bearing type hoist bar and tie bar with no thrusting steel pipe concrete used are pioneers achieved 10 number ones in China; municipal Interchange with the largest building area in China -- Tianjin Coastal Interchange (total area is 87,322 m2); the highest altitude railway project in the world -- Qingzang Railway (5,072m); the longest highway tunnel -- Zhongnanshan Tunnel of Xizha Expressway in Shaanxi Province (18,436m); underground tunnel excavation project with the largest section are all undertaken by CR18G.
